Redemption Island: Episode 3

Overall, while an entertaining episode, this week's episode only ranks 3rd on my "Reality Shows Pickett Loves" scale. 1st place goes to Face Off with their Zombie competition (dancing zombies is the ultimate reality trump card), 2nd place goes to Top Chef: All Stars for an episode where everyone did so well that the judges couldn't eliminate anyone, 3rd place is for Survivor, and 4th place goes to Top Shot, which featured an entertaining but forgetful archery competition.

I do want to give Julie major MVP points for the move she pulled against Russell in this episode. She was smart enough to fake going along with his plan so that he wouldn't try and persuade others to join him. That's an advanced move, and one that many contestants mess up. LVP award is a tie this week: Phillip definitely gets one for sitting on top of the hidden immunity idol clue & not finding it, but Stephanie also steals some of that bacon by being so obnoxious during tribal council as to practically guarantee that she's the next to be voted out of their tribe.

Ultimately I think it was a bad idea for the Purple Tribe to throw a challenge. They were not so dominant as to be able to do that. And they really underestimated the momentum swing that just happened. They gave the other tribe some serious luxuries, and a feeling of what it's like to win. Talk to the Cleveland Cavs this year, and you'll know how important that feeling is. And even if you don't care about "feelings" and "momentum" keep in mind that Yellow Tribe got a tarp! That's one of the single greatest reward items you can get. Getting a good night's sleep is more important than food, especially in a game that's so mental.

Power Rankings

1. Team Cockydoodlebug - Doug/Bri's team is in the rare position where all of their players are in a majority alliance. That almost never happens. They also have an immunity idol which NO ONE knows about, which gives it more power than a normal immunity idol, I think. I also like Rooster's position of being a leader of his alliance without appearing to be the leader. That's an advantage that Boston Rob doesn't have.

2. Team #Winning! - I have doubts about this team name - it looks way to much like some sort of Twitter thing. That being said, Moon's team is definitely looking solid. My only doubts are that Boston Rob is outplaying everyone too much & that his own alliance will, come merge time, try and turn against him. That won't matter much if he finds an immunity idol though. Krista may have been on the wrong end of the alliance battle, but at the same time she was the least atrocious of the 3, so she could squeak by the danger stages of the alliance crushing, and then watch while the majority alliance turns against itself.

3. Team Evil Crushell - Crushell takes a big hit with Russell going to Redemption Island as there are no hidden immunity idols to be found there! At the same time, he does have a chance to come back, and I was really impressed with Julie this week. Sarita seems pretty canny too, although she's laying low right now. Perhaps this team has more depth than I originally thought :)

4. Team Fabioesque - Fabioesque's team is starting to look sad. Matt's still in Purgatory, and Stephanie looked like a fool. Mike is still going strong, but you gotta have dregs earn points to win The Pool. Dachui needs a Matt comeback for this team to really have a chance.

5. Team Haterz Gonna Hate - Francesca is officially gone, which is really sad because I would have loved to see her go farther in the game. I rarely think this about any of the early-outers, but in this case she just got extremely unlucky. I also like Steve for his strategy, even though I disagree with throwing a challenge. At least he's trying to make moves!

6. Team Brief(s) - My team may still have 3 players, but one of them is Phillip, and the others are Boston Rob minions who appear to have no brains of their own. I'm not loving my team & have decided to cheer against them from now on. Although I will admit that I was thrilled to have a score above 0 by the end of this week!

Were you too ashamed to rank America's Next Top Model or was it just a boring episode?

The Cocky of Team CockyDoodleBug told me TUF starts up again soon...

Also, (not so) Amazing Race?

I thought it was a good move to oust Russell; as they said, he's not a "number" for them anyways, so losing him doesn't hurt them at all. In fact, it probably helps them as he was more likely to hurt his own tribe.

As far as the pool is concerned, this is quickly turning into a two horse race...glad to be one of the thoroughbreds.

I think Bag is officially the worst competitor in the history of the Survivor Pool. I'd rank his team last here as well, since I could actually see Phillip parasiting his way to the jury and a few points along the way. Bag may be down to just Steve in a few hrs.

For the record, the official team name is #WINNING! (all caps)

Thank god that Rooster hasn't said anything about his immunity idol. Telling people doesn't help you at this point in the game, and now that they have a good majority he should just sit on that little jewel.

I think the preview for tonight's episode that they have been playing is one of the worst ever. A challenge that will leave you "shocked"! -> There are 2 people in the challenge and 1 of them will be going home... not like it's going to be a blindside. C'mon CBS.

Lol, I just listed the top 4 finishers, which is why ANTM & Amazing Race didn't make it. ANTM really doesn't get me excited until makeovers :).

Moon, I'm not claiming that Russell wasn't a cancer to his tribe. I said it was a bad decision because of 1) tribe momentum, and 2) the tarp. You gave no arguments on those points, but I am interested in hearing how important those factors are IYO.

For the record, no team name gets to be in all caps on my blog. You can comment as team #WINNING! all you like, but I will not have ONE TEAM "YELLING" THEIR NAME WHILE THE OTHER TEAMS ARE BEING POLITE WITH THEIR LOWER-CASE NAMES! DO YOU UNDERSTAND MY POINT? DO YOU, MOON?

YAYAYAY FOR NO CAPS!!

ok fair enough. tribe momentum, to me, is less important than cutting out a cancer like russell who will sabotage them when they do hit the merge. i'd rather go into the merge without russell than up another body in numbers but knowing he's gonna stab you in the back. the tarp is a good point, that's key. i guess it hasn't been raining much so far so they might be underrating it.

I have to agree with Michal and Moon, although I know that sounds like an oxymoron. With Michal re: CAPS. W/Moon re: getting rid of Russell, the cancer. Courtney's mad at me for wishing him gone, but really, other tribes have kept him around far too long. Unlike fine wine, he just gets worse--bitter and unsavory--the longer you keep him around.

I keep thinking, what was the trap? Weird for it to be an actual tarp...
