XvM: Eps 10 & 11

The blog delinquency continues. No time for a real post, but wanted to share updated scores as we head into the final stretch. I'm getting rid of the individual castaways' scores in the blog - it takes too long to update that. For details on scoring, see the spreadsheet. Other suggestion for stuff I include in the blog that you don't really read or care about? I'd love to make posting these easier/less time consuming so that I'm actually able to do this more regularly!

The Teams:

Baggadocious "DK Double Stacker" - 76 points
  1. Ken
  2. David
  3. [Figgy]
  4. [Taylor]
MoonBee "Hannah & the Homeboys" - 75 points
  1. [Chris]
  2. Adam
  3. Will
  4. Hannah
Michal & Ben "Sea Dogs" - 71 points
  1. [Zeke]
  2. Jay
  3. [Michaela]
  4. [Paul]
Doug & Bri "The Real Housewives of Fiji (and Bret)" - 54 points
  1. [Michelle]
  2. Bret
  3. [Jessica]
  4. [Lucy]
Dregs "Dreggy McBoatface" - 12 points
  1. [CeCe]
  2. Sunday

Power Rankings:
  1. Hannah & the Homeboys: Clear front-runners with Adam suddenly looking like the one to beat at final tribal. I really hope Hannah goes home soon!
  2. DK Double Stacker: David beat his Goliath, which in this case was a young gay Okie... a major victory for him & Baggadocious. Ken proving to be not the brightest, but this is still a strong contender.
  3. Sea Dogs: Could Jay win it all? I think maybe. Probably still not be enough for us to win the whole thing though. .
  4. Housewives: Bret won't win.

Douche of the Week:
Ep 10: David. Ep 11: Ken.

Well, I miss your commentary! I wanted to hear more about what you thought of Adam's use/misplay of the immunity idol and giving away his advantage, just thoughts about him period. More about how it is Hannah knew her name was on the ballots. (She seems to have some weird intuition, as well as being quite annoying.) And, Ken. Is it as obvious/simple as that he's really, really stupid and arrogant? Why hadn't we seen that before?

I know you have a million other things to do, but just wanted you to know what I like about your blog.

I miss the blog too. It wouldn't do full justice, but perhaps we could have some guest writers? I am too busy to commit to many, but I could commit to doing one.

From an entertainment perspective it has been a consistently entertaining season. We always complain when the players don't make moves and just coattail till the end where they lose in the jury vote. That certainly has not been an issue this season, with powerhouse players like Michaela, Zeke and Chris (to a lesser extent) taken out preemptively.

Have three idols been played, all unsuccessfully? 'Twas a beautiful moment this week when homeboy Adam chivalrously played his to save his teammate Hannah

From a pool perspective I have some reservations about our pool. I feel like we picked the worst team and we have a good chance of winning. I guess cause our players have survived - which IS the primary criterion we should be trying to select. It just feels off. I dunno, I think the pool is mostly just luck. That's fine too.

You can lose the dreg question. I imagine we've all formulated our opinions by now. I'm not a huge Douche of the Week fan personally. You write amusing recaps but if pressed for time could just stick to the analysis since we all watch the show.

I have no idea who will win. I think the "airtime theory" has been completely debunked. Will was the star of the last show after a ghostly first couple months, Bret and Hannah have been coming on, and Ken has mostly disappeared after a huge start, Marcin Gortat-style (that joke is for Bag). I think they just try to show the most interesting stuff that happens.

Moon, no offense, but your opinion that you picked the worst team shouldn't be enough to change the pool point scoring system. Additionally, I don't feel that you did pick the worst team - but that is just another opinion. Chris was a power player. Will is good at challenges and showing a willingness to play I did not expect from an 18 year old. Adam and Hannah are cerebral players, albeit annoying, and willing to make moves. I dunno man, maybe you could explain what is so bad about your team compared to the others?

Let's look at it a bit more objectively.

1. Your team has the most players remaining. They haven't racked up any incredibly high individual scores but they have all survived. In fact, if you look at the player points there is no obvious challenge beast this season. Jay and David have the highest scores and those scores have been bolstered by challenge wins and idol finds.

2. Bag's team has the second most players remaining. Your team and his team are in a tight race for the win this season. That makes sense to me.

I don't really understand what the problem is? Our team is down to 1 player as is Doug's. The scoring reflects that.

How can a pool where we select player's we know very little about (unless a returning cast season) be about much other than luck? Watching one or two episodes can help to formulate some basic strategy - an example being the Bag Double Stack this season - but ultimately it's a bit of a crap shooooot.

On to some brief analysis:

I would substitute the word 'unnecessarily' for 'chivalrously' regarding Adam's idol play.

David's early idol play to save Jess was successful.

I have been quite surprised at the number of idols played for others this season.

It has definitely been an entertaining season with no one in control of the majority for long.

I'm not sure the airtime theory has been entirely debunked, far from it. The two players most likely to win have been given a ton of time and focus - interviews, redeeming story arc, lots of airtime every week. If Adam or David wins, I think the airtime theory will only have been strengthened.

I think Ken would come across more as he sees himself if he wielded his honor less like a weapon. He is so secure in the knowledge that he can be trusted that he makes others feel like he looks down on them and doesn't trust their word. Ken is so blatant that he comes across as a bit of a douche.

I miss the commentary as well. Maybe just pare down the formatting and put words on the screen. We can check individual scores on the spreadsheet as you suggested. Additionally, you could take notes while you watch the episode (a la Moon and Bachelor). I wouldn't mind some pausing here and there.

Gogogogo team Bag. Sorry Moon, but I don't really like your players. I would be OK with Will winning but I am not a Hannah fan and would rather see David over Adam.

Final thought: Next season should be awesome!

I also am finding this to be a most entertaining season. And while I don't spend a lot of time thinking about "air time," I think there must be something to it. For example, we almost NEVER hear Sunday's monologue. For me that means she must not be someone I need to know much about when we get to the end. But if she should be in the Final Tribal then I would say the "air time theory" is debunked.

David and Ken for DTW! I agree with Wolfy that Moon has a good team, and drafted a good team. Moon is being a Survivor self loather. Gogogoogogo DK Stack!
