BBB: Episode 10

BBB's tenth episode reiterated the season's two dominant storylines: 1) Tony's unrelenting, maximum-effort gameplay and 2) Spencer's uncanny escape from the depths of despair. At this point it's hard to remember how many idols Tony has found, how many times he's backstabbed an apparent ally, how many times Spencer has found himself as the targeted player of the minority alliance and how many times he's received an eleventh hour stay on his execution. I'm giving Tony my Douche of the Week vote: his latest purge went beyond paranoid to nonsensical, and there was no reason to off inconsequential Jefra - unless he wanted Bri & Doug to add another wing to the trophy.

Current Standings:

Sinkers and Floaters: 69 points
1. Sarah (19 points)
2. Morgan (13 points)
3. Tasha (22 points)
4. Spencer (15 points)

J'Tude: 57 points
1. Tony (25 points)
2. Kass (6 points)
3. Jeremiah (23 points)
4. J'Tia (3 points)

WooBrr: 48 points
1. Woo (21 points)
2. Brice (0 points)
3. Alexis (2 points)
4. Jefra (25 points)

Boston Cougars: 40 points
1. LJ (23 points)
2. Trish (11 points)
3. Cliff (10 points)
4. Lindsey (-4 points)

Power Rankings:

1. J'Tude
Tony figures to play his idols the next two episodes, leaving the others just one chance (with four players left) to vote him out. This assumes Tony can't use either idol at the penultimate tribal, and that Final Tribal will feature three players. But here's the thing: the two-hour season finale won't actually occur until Wednesday, May 21. We'll lose one player this week and another on May 14, leaving us with four castaways heading into the finale. The finale, which will be in a weekday time slot for the first time in forever, generally starts with five players. So you have to wonder if this season's Final Tribal might be an old-school two-player showdown, leaving more opportunities for Tony to use his idols and/or be voted out.

2. Sinkers and Floaters
Somehow Spencer did it again. Give the lad credit. He was able to plant enough seeds of doubt to provoke Tony into another wild move and extend his stay for at least another week. The move seems dubious from our point of view: it appears Tony should have viewed Spencer as his most dangerous opponent, capitalized on a risk-free opportunity to oust him, and kept milquetoast Jefra around. But if Tony takes the young buck down before the finale and advances with the likes of Kass, Trish, and Woo, more power to him. Can Tasha win this thing? Her multifaceted game is befitting of the winner's circle, but the airtime she's received thus far is not.

3. WooBrr
This was a poorly constructed team void of players capable of winning the game, but Bri & Doug will likely avoid trophy-addition duties because useless 4th round pick Jefra lucked into 29 more points than useless 4th round pick Lindsey.

4. Boston Cougars
The Cougs need Trish and not Woo to make Final Tribal. That would likely be enough to avoid the basement, but not for certain.

I would make a prediction on how the final six will shake out, but this is not a season for predictions. It is a popcorn season, one of the most purely entertaining in recent memory. Based on recent history it would be easy to dismiss everyone but Spencer and Tony as also-rans, but older seasons tell us that airheads and coattail riders can win Survivor too.

Tony is going to make the finale but who will vote for him?

I will. I will give him my vote... for dooooosh of the week.

Tony can continue to sit with the regular immunity idol around his neck and never play it because of the TP idol in his back pocket.

If Tony is dumb enough to take Spencer to the finale he will lose and he will deserve to.

Woo is the Asian Keanu Reeves. The sensual rib eating scene helped me to realize this.

Spencer's got alligator blood. He keeps haaaanging around. I give the lad credit, but not much this week, 10% seems about right. Tony approached him. Tony is his own worst enemy. Tony fiends to make these plays. Tasha gets 30% for her passive and more effective subterfuge vs the cop brain and Tony receives the lion share with 60%.

For all the accolades that are heaped upon Spencer, it is not easy for me to forget his sulking and hot headed outbursts, his bungled idol search, depantsing, and subsequent misplay. As opposed to Tasha, who, in my opinion, receives less credit than she is due. From a very early point in the game she showed a willingness to adapt and change her situation when she allied with Kass and they took control of the Brains tribe. Now on the outs since the merge, betrayed by her former ally, she has managed to survive without the benefit of a hidden immunity idol and has kept the spotlight off herself (until recently) even though she is a challenge beast, winning individual immunity more than any other competitor. Her game is befitting of the winner's circle as you said and it's a shame she doesn't get more airtime.

Good insight, Ben!

Of course I vote Tony for DoW. I don't really care much for the guy and I really only want people I like to win. So there you have it, my very estrogen-based emotional DoW vote :)

My vote for DoW goes to Kass this week. Mainly for her blind confidence with her majority alliance and the stupid surprised/shocked look on her face when loose-cannon-Tony switched things up again. Never be comfortable! Have you never seen Survivor? Or participated in any of the tribals this season?!?

Tony will either crush at the final tribal or he will get 0 votes since he has backstabbed so many people. Not as bad as an Evil Russell situation, but he is in some trouble. I think the only way Tony can guarantee the win is if he takes Trish and Woo with him to a final 3, or either of them in a final 2. But is that possible...

Tony should be very worried about Spencer, Tasha, and Kass out final-speeching him to take the W. All 3 of the original Brains tribe have enough of a "dismal start backstory" and "desperation moves" to sway votes their way. Tony is standing on a pretty small balance beam and I don't think he will be able to make it to the end as the victor. But he will definitely be back in a "Favorites" season for pure entertainment value regardless.

Moon, all our team needs is Woo to stick with Tony and maybe even luck into another immunity win for "Space" Cougs to be "trophying" over the summer. I feel like one or both of those situations are more likely than Woo being voted out and Trish making the final.

But you should be more worried about our beer bet. Sounds like all of us think that Tasha (and maybe Kass) has a legitimate chance at this point and my fridge is a little bare right now... Just sayin.

Just a quick note: Space Cougars are actually at 42 points, not 40.

Thanks Doug for catching an auction purchase miss!

No problem, Pickle.

When Woobrr narrowly beats out the Space Cougs for "not-last" I'm going to make sure to enjoy my self-purchased Murphy's dinner in celebration just like Woo while he slurped up those ribs and beer.

And I'll probably pay more for my meal than Kass paid for her damn steak sandwich. What a cheap auction! Someone should have made it rain a little more.

Woobrr, nice catch on the auction points but if you eat your food like Woo I'm going to lose my appetite.

I still have Stinkers and Dregs at the top of my power rankings. This week could have cemented J'Tude as the likely pool winner but all Tony accomplished was putting Spencer and Tasha one step closer to Final Tribal.
