Fans v. Faves II: Episode 11

First things first: Moon, I'd love to have you write a guest blog on the next All-Stars season! Please email it to me & I'll post away.

Interesting episode - I'm glad that they voted out 2 people in one episode, because the "high drama" of finally getting rid of Reynold just wans't going to be there. He was too big of a threat not to vote out, there were no better options. It's appropriate that the guy who thought so much of himself wasn't even given the feature spot in the voting-out of the episode. At the same time, though, we must bid adieu to Team Shamarn't: kudos to you for lasting as long as you did, and better luck next season!

Again, another masterful episode for Cochran! He eliminated his biggest threat in the game, Andrea, while being so subtle about it that most people in his alliance wouldn't say that it was his idea. He would just point out his concerns & then let them come to the inevitable conclusion that she had to go. Doing it this way minimizes how much of a threat the rest of his alliance might have otherwise perceived him to be. He didn't "betray his alliance", he protected it by sharing vital information. This was the play of the season, even more than defeating the Malcolm Alliance; considering Andrea's hidden immunity idol & relationship with Eddie she was about to become unstoppable.

By my judgement I think we only have 2 episodes left, which usually means we'll be finished with this season by next Sunday! I am amazed that 26 seasons in I am still so entertained by this show. Even though so much of it is the same - Probst's lines & clothing, the challenges, the living conditions - the relationships that are created in the game are so complex & unique that it's almost always a great season.

Douche of the Week:

I'm going to give my vote to Erik this week. He's such a waste of space on the show, and it annoys me that once in a blue moon he pulls his head up out of the sand just long enought to declare that he is playing a good game before disappearing again.

Also I have a bookkeeping question: I didn't deduct points from Andrea for not playing her idol when she was in danger. Should I have done? It'd be a -5 if the answer is yes.

Also, FYI, Erik got the points for finding the HI idol even though he passed it over to Andrea so quickly that he barely touched it. Doing so was probably the best move he's ever made during his time on Survivor btw.

I don't really know the rules as to finding the immunity idol but it doesn't seem like Erik deserves points for "finding" it. Andrea won the clue. Andrea had the map. Andrea led her entire alliance to the exact spot and they all dug together. I thought she was just sharing the moment with the others and that there was an implicit understanding that it was her idol...

I don't understand why Andrea would lose 5 points for not playing the idol, I don't see any rule about that in the spreadsheet.

As Wolf noted, I think giving Andrea the points for finding the idol would be in the spirit of our pool, especially since she wound up with it.

Further, unless there's a rule I don't know about, Andrea should be rewarded 10 points for her challenge win, as it was a dual immunity/reward challenge.

Finally, you didn't reward/punish anyone for their auction purchases (I don't remember if we abolished auction pts, but they're still listed on the spreadsheet).

Douche of the Week: Erik

Love the way Cochran has developed his game this season.

Erik for DoW.

My focus is on the trophy now.

We just caught up. Between work travel and moving into the new house, we have been a little strapped for time. My apologies to the pool for a lack of participation.

That being said - Survivor remains awesome. Cochran is kicking ass. Eddie and Erik are idioting their way to the end.

I'm always for issuing points according to the rules issued at the beginning of the season, no matter if it helps or hurts my team. We try to set up the rules to avoid judgement calls. There have been some situations this season that have brought up good discussions about rule adjustments, but mid-season rule changes should always be avoided.

Since we have been absent from the discussions for about 3 weeks, I submit to the decisions made by the pool up until the finale. Still it has been an awesome season and I think it has been super competitive for the pool. Except for Snaders. Silly Snaders. Go big on the trophy, little guy. That can be your shining star in the survivor pool. Hold on tight to that. ;).

Game on.
